To spread the message of healthy eating and living, our nutritionists at Eat Wise have given talks to members of the public, the Health Promotion Board, the Ministry of Education, other Government departments, corporate clients, medical professionals, to children in schools and other public events.

If you are a marketing a health product or food, we can also design talks that are targeted at your audience, for example, a talk on osteoporosis if you're retailing calcium supplements.

The assembly talk to children on healthy weight

  • What is the meaning of being overweight or underweight?
  • The negative effects of being overweight and underweight

  • What can they do to improve their weight? (Decrease and increase BMI)
  • Solutions to decrease BMI: TV, Healthy meals, snacks and drinks, physical activity, After school meals
  • Solutions to increase weight: Healthy eating habit, trying new food, nutritious snacks and physical activity

    • Boosting levels of exercise with family activities, sports and games
      Note: that we used the word BMI here because we do not encourage weight lost in children. Instead, children should grow out of their weight. This will be further explained during the teacher's workshop.

Healthy Weight Forum for parents

  • The importance of tracking healthy growth

  • It is more efficient for parents to know healthy cooking methods then to give them recipes. In other words we will teach them the basics of healthy cooking and they can go home and modify their recipes accordingly. Eg. Using a non-stick pan for cooking will allow them to cook with less oil etc.

Fitness Forum – The fitness forum is primarily for students with weight problems. The approach of this session is to encourage discussion and problems solving amongst the group. Below are some of the areas we will discuss on.

  • What are their thoughts about the definition of ‘overweight' or ‘obese'?
  • Modify their behaviors and believes accordingly and motivate them to make improvements.
  • To have each other's support
  • Monitoring each other in a tactful manner
  • Problems sharing
    • Under our professional guidance, students are to point out problems they face with trying to achieve optimal weight. On the other hand, the other participants and can help to come out with solutions.
  • Participant contribution on ways to increase physical activity via games, sports and daily activities.
